But in the most recent Photoshop versions, we can also generate an entire AI image from scratch using a feature called <strong>Generate Image<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Generate Image uses Adobe Firefly to create AI images directly in Photoshop. And it brings with it most of the options found in the text-to-image module on the Adobe Firefly website, including the options to <a href=\"\/photo-effects\/using-structure-reference-and-style-reference-in-adobe-firefly\/\" title=\"Using Structure Reference and Style Reference in Adobe Firefly\">match the look and style of a reference image<\/a> and apply different effects.<\/p>\n<p>And because Generate Image uses the latest version of Adobe Firefly (the Firefly Image 3 model), it can create images up to 2048 x 2048 pixels, a big jump from the 1024 x 1024 pixel limit of Generative Fill.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"sub\">Which Photoshop version do I need?<\/h2>\n<p>I'm using <a href=\"https:\/\/adobe.prf.hn\/click\/camref:1100lrdjJ\/destination:https%3A%2F%2Fwww.adobe.com%2Fproducts%2Fphotoshop.html\" title=\"Learn more about Adobe Creative Cloud\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Photoshop 2025<\/a> and you'll want to make sure that your copy of Photoshop is up to date. Or you can choose neither and Photoshop will choose one for you based on your prompt. <\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ll choose Art.<\/p>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pe-images.s3.amazonaws.com\/photo-effects\/2024\/generate-image\/generate-image-content-type.png\" alt=\"The Content Type option in Generate Image.\" width=\"357\" height=\"147\" \/>\n<div class=\"image-desc\">Setting the content type for the image.<\/div>\n<h3>Step 5: Click Generate<\/h3>\n<p>Below Content Type is the <strong>Style<\/strong> section. Here you can choose a <a href=\"\/photo-effects\/using-structure-reference-and-style-reference-in-adobe-firefly\/\" title=\"How to use Structure Reference and Style Reference in Adobe Firefly\">reference image<\/a> to have Photoshop match its colors and its overall look and feel. And you can add one or more <strong>effects<\/strong> to the image.<\/p>\n<p>But we can always try different style options after the image is generated. For now, all we really need is our prompt. Generally the more detailed you are with your prompt, the better the results will be.<\/p>\n<p>But I\u2019m happy with my result so I\u2019ll leave the prompt the way it is.<\/p>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pe-images.s3.amazonaws.com\/photo-effects\/2024\/generate-image\/edit-generate-image-prompt.png\" alt=\"You can edit your prompt and click Generate again in the Properties panel.\" width=\"272\" height=\"278\" \/>\n<div class=\"image-desc\">Edit your prompt and click Generate if needed.<\/div>\n<h3>Step 8: Choose a style reference image<\/h3>\n<p>Just like on the Adobe Firefly website, Generate Image in Photoshop lets you completely change the look and style of the results by using a reference image.
