Here\u2019s how it works.<\/p>\n<h3>Which version of Photoshop do I need?<\/h3>\n<p>To follow along, you'll need <a href=\"https:\/\/prf.hn\/l\/dlXjD2w\" title=\"Get Adobe Photoshop\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Photoshop 2023<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>You\u2019ll also want to make sure that it\u2019s updated to the latest version. At the time I\u2019m writing this, the latest Photoshop version is <strong>24.1.0<\/strong>, released in December 2022. This has always been an issue with the Brush Tool, at least until now.<\/p>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pe-images.s3.amazonaws.com\/basics\/2023\/brush-tool-fixed\/brush-cursor-lost-in-background.jpg\" alt=\"The brush cursor is much harder to see over more detailed areas.\" width=\"701\" height=\"544\" \/>\n<div class=\"image-desc\">The cursor is much harder to see over more detailed areas.<\/div>\n<p><a href=\"\/basics\/turn-a-photoshop-brush-into-an-eraser\/\" title=\"Learn more\">Related tutorial: Turn your brush into an eraser!<\/a><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"sub\">Where to find the new Brush Tip Outline option<\/h2>\n<p>But finally, the latest version of Photoshop (24.1.0) fixes the problem thanks to a new option in the Preferences called <strong>Brush Tip Outline<\/strong> which lets us change the thickness of the brush cursor.<\/p>\n<p>To get to it, on a Windows PC, go up to the <strong>Edit<\/strong> menu. I have it currently set to <strong>Thin<\/strong>, which seems to be the size the brush cursor was using in previous Photoshop versions.<\/p>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pe-images.s3.amazonaws.com\/basics\/2023\/brush-tool-fixed\/brush-tip-outline-option.png\" alt=\"The new Brush Tip Outline option in Photoshop\" width=\"628\" height=\"276\" \/>\n<div class=\"image-desc\">The new Brush Tip Outline option.<\/div>\n<p>But along with Thin, you can also choose <strong>Normal<\/strong>, <strong>Bold<\/strong> or <strong>Extra Bold<\/strong>. The default size is <strong>Bold<\/strong>. But while we\u2019re here, I just want to quickly mention another option that I find helpful.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Show Crosshair in Brush Tip<\/strong>, which is not a new option, adds a small crosshair in the center of your brush cursor. This helps you see exactly where you\u2019re painting.
