While it won't stop someone from using your images without permission, adding copyright and contact info is still something you should do because it gives people a way to contact you if they are interested in your work.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ll start by showing you how to add copyright and contact info using Photoshop\u2019s File Info dialog box, and how to save the details as a template that can be quickly applied to other images. I\u2019ll also show you one important edit you should make to the template to avoid overwriting some important information. You can <a href=\"https:\/\/adobe.prf.hn\/click\/camref:1100lrdjJ\/destination:https%3A%2F%2Fwww.adobe.com%2Fproducts%2Fphotoshop.html\" title=\"Get Adobe Photoshop\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">get the latest Photoshop version here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>But to apply copyright and contact info to multiple images at once, you will also need Adobe Bridge. Bridge is a separate program that\u2019s included with all Creative Cloud subscriptions. So if you haven\u2019t done so already, you\u2019ll want to open the Creative Cloud desktop app and download Adobe Bridge before you continue.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"sub\">Step 1: Open an image in Photoshop<\/h2>\n<p>Start by <a href=\"\/basics\/open-images-photoshop-cc\/\" title=\"Learn more\">opening an image into Photoshop<\/a>. We\u2019ll add our copyright and contact info to this image, but we\u2019ll also save it as a template so we can quickly apply it to other images:<\/p>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pe-images.s3.amazonaws.com\/basics\/2022\/add-copyright-and-contact-info\/original.jpg\" alt=\"Opening an image into Photoshop\" width=\"803\" height=\"455\" \/>\n<div class=\"image-desc\">Opening an image in Photoshop.<\/div>\n<h2 class=\"sub\">Step 2: Open the File Info dialog box<\/h2>\n<p>Then go up to the <strong>File<\/strong> menu in the Menu Bar and choose <strong>File Info<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pe-images.s3.amazonaws.com\/basics\/2022\/add-copyright-and-contact-info\/choose-file-info-command.png\" alt=\"Opening the File Info command in Photoshop\" width=\"301\" height=\"169\" \/>\n<div class=\"image-desc\">Going to File &gt; File Info.<\/div>\n<p>Make sure the File Info dialog box is set to the <strong>Basic<\/strong> category which is where we enter our copyright information. The categories are listed along the left:<\/p>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pe-images.s3.amazonaws.com\/basics\/2022\/add-copyright-and-contact-info\/choose-basic-file-info-category.png\" alt=\"Selecting the Basic category in Photoshop's File Info dialog box\" width=\"178\" height=\"144\" \/>\n<div class=\"image-desc\">Basic should open by default.<\/div>\n<h2 class=\"sub\">Step 3: Enter your copyright details<\/h2>\n<p>Since we are going to save the information as a template, we want to include only the details that will be the same for every image. So we\u2019ll skip things like Document Title, Description and Keywords. Instead, we\u2019ll add only the author and the copyright information.<\/p>\n<p>Enter your name into the <strong>Author<\/strong> field. But don't press Enter (Win) \/ Return (Mac) on your keyboard when you\u2019re done or you\u2019ll close the File Info dialog box. On a Windows PC, type the copyright symbol by holding the <strong>Alt<\/strong> key on your keyboard and typing <strong>0169<\/strong> on the numeric keypad. On a Mac, hold the <strong>Option<\/strong> key and press the letter <strong>G<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Then follow the copyright symbol with your name and any additional information you want to add (like your business name, location, etc.):<\/p>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pe-images.s3.amazonaws.com\/basics\/2022\/add-copyright-and-contact-info\/copyright-notice-details.png\" alt=\"Entering my copyright notice in Photoshop's File Info dialog box.\" width=\"467\" height=\"138\" \/>\n<div class=\"image-desc\">Entering the copyright details.<\/div>\n<p>Finally, enter your website URL into the <strong>Copyright Info URL<\/strong> box. If you have a page on your website that holds your copyright details, you can link directly to that page. But if people can already contact you through your website, it\u2019s best to leave everything else blank (other than your name which should already be entered in the <strong>Creator<\/strong> field:<\/p>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pe-images.s3.amazonaws.com\/basics\/2022\/add-copyright-and-contact-info\/iptc-contact-details.png\" alt=\"The IPTC contact details in Photoshop's File Info dialog box\" width=\"649\" height=\"442\" \/>\n<div class=\"image-desc\">Only the Creator and Website(s) fields are filled in.<\/div>\n<h2 class=\"sub\">Step 5: Save the information as a template<\/h2>\n<p>With all of your copyright and contact details entered, save them as a template by clicking the <strong>Template Folder<\/strong> box at the bottom of the dialog box:<\/p>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pe-images.s3.amazonaws.com\/basics\/2022\/add-copyright-and-contact-info\/click-template-folder-box.png\" alt=\"Clicking the Template Folder box in the File Info dialog box\" width=\"504\" height=\"109\" \/>\n<div class=\"image-desc\">Clicking the Template Folder option.<\/div>\n<p>And choosing <strong>Export<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pe-images.s3.amazonaws.com\/basics\/2022\/add-copyright-and-contact-info\/export-copyright-info-as-template.png\" alt=\"Clicking the Export option\" width=\"134\" height=\"107\" \/>\n<div class=\"image-desc\">Clicking the Export option.<\/div>\n<p>But rather than saving the template in Photoshop\u2019s default template folder, save it somewhere else like in a new folder on your Desktop. This will make it easier to edit the template, which we\u2019ll do next.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ll save my template in a new folder named <q>File info<\/q> on my Desktop. This is the date that the image we are currently working with was created. The problem is that this date was saved as part of the template, which means that when we apply the template to other images, we run the risk of replacing all of their creation dates with this date. So to avoid doing that, we\u2019ll edit the template and remove the date:<\/p>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pe-images.s3.amazonaws.com\/basics\/2022\/add-copyright-and-contact-info\/image-creation-date.png\" alt=\"The image's creation date was saved as part of the copyright template.\" width=\"391\" height=\"136\" \/>\n<div class=\"image-desc\">The image's creation date was saved as part of the template.<\/div>\n<h2 class=\"sub\">Step 7: Click Cancel to close the File Info dialog box<\/h2>\n<p>We can\u2019t edit the template directly in Photoshop. In my case, it\u2019s in my <q>File info<\/q> folder on my Desktop:<\/p>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pe-images.s3.amazonaws.com\/basics\/2022\/add-copyright-and-contact-info\/open-file-info-folder.png\" alt=\"Opening the folder that holds the copyright template\" width=\"209\" height=\"218\" \/>\n<div class=\"image-desc\">Opening the folder that holds the template.<\/div>\n<p>Click on the template file to highlight it. Then on a Windows PC, <strong>right-click<\/strong> on the file, choose <strong>Open With<\/strong>, and then choose <strong>Notepad<\/strong>. On a Mac, <strong>Control-click<\/strong> on the file, choose <strong>Open With<\/strong>, and then choose <strong>TextEdit<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pe-images.s3.amazonaws.com\/basics\/2022\/add-copyright-and-contact-info\/open-template-with-notepad.jpg\" alt=\"Opening the copyright template to edit it.\" width=\"622\" height=\"280\" \/>\n<div class=\"image-desc\">Open the template in Notepad (Win) or TextEdit (Mac).<\/div>\n<p>When the file opens, you\u2019ll see all of the metadata that\u2019s included in the template. And the line we want to remove starts with &lt;xmp:CreateDate&gt; which is not far down from the top. Click and drag over the entire line to highlight it, and then press <strong>Delete<\/strong> on your keyboard to remove it. You may need to press the Delete key a few more times to remove any remaining blank space: <\/p>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pe-images.s3.amazonaws.com\/basics\/2022\/add-copyright-and-contact-info\/xmp-create-date.png\" alt=\"Highlighting and deleting the CreateDate line of metadata.\" width=\"697\" height=\"133\" \/>\n<div class=\"image-desc\">Highlight and delete the CreateDate line.<\/div>\n<p>Once you\u2019ve deleted the line, save the template by going up to the <strong>File<\/strong> menu and choosing <strong>Save<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pe-images.s3.amazonaws.com\/basics\/2022\/add-copyright-and-contact-info\/save-edited-template.png\" alt=\"Saving the edited copyright template.\" width=\"227\" height=\"172\" \/>\n<div class=\"image-desc\">Saving the edited template.<\/div>\n<p>Then on a Windows PC, close Notepad by going up to the <strong>File<\/strong> menu and choosing <strong>Exit<\/strong>. But I do want to make sure that my copyright and contact info is included with the saved file.
