For Photoshop CC, CS6 and earlier.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"author\">Written by Steve Patterson.<\/div>\n<p>If you're compositing images, designing a layout or uploading photos to the web, you'll often need to resize images in Photoshop so that they share the same dimensions (the same width and height). One way to do that would be to manually enter the same values for the width and height into Photoshop's Image Size dialog box for each image you need to resize.  But if one of your images is already the size you need, here's a time-saving trick you can use to quickly resize another image to match! I'll be using <a href=\"https:\/\/prf.hn\/l\/dlXjD2w\" title=\"Learn more about Adobe Creative Cloud\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Photoshop CC 2018<\/a> but any recent version will work.<\/p>\n<p class=\"members-ad-top\"><a href=\"\/print-ready-pdfs\/\">Download all of our Photoshop tutorials as PDFs!<\/a><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"sub\">Two Images, Two Different Sizes<\/h2>\n<p>Here I have two images open in Photoshop. This first image is the larger of the two and the one I need to resize (<a href=\"https:\/\/prf.hn\/l\/Jz3eEep\" title=\"portrait photo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">portrait photo<\/a> from Adobe Stock):<\/p>\n<p>\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pe-images.s3.amazonaws.com\/basics\/cc\/resize-images-to-match\/large-image-photoshop.jpg\" alt=\"The larger image that needs to be resized to match the smaller image\" width=\"704\" height=\"400\"\/><\/p>\n<div class=\"image-desc\">The first of two open images. Photo credit: Adobe Stock.<\/div>\n<p>To view the current size of the image, I'll go up to the <strong>Image<\/strong> menu in the Menu Bar and choose <strong>Image Size<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p>\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pe-images.s3.amazonaws.com\/basics\/cc\/resize-images-to-match\/choose-image-size-command-photoshop.png\" alt=\"Opening the Image Size dialog box in Photoshop\" width=\"206\" height=\"137\"\/><\/p>\n<div class=\"image-desc\">Opening the Image Size dialog box.<\/div>\n<p>In the Image Size dialog box, we see that this image has a <strong>Width<\/strong> of <strong>5184 pixels<\/strong> and a <strong>Height<\/strong> of <strong>3456 pixels<\/strong>. Notice in the tabs that my larger image is named &quot;portrait-large&quot; and my smaller image is named &quot;portrait-small&quot;. Photo credit: Adobe Stock.<\/div>\n<p>The view its size, I'll again go up to the <strong>Image<\/strong> menu and choose <strong>Image Size<\/strong>. And here we see that this smaller image has a <strong>Width<\/strong> of <strong>1600 pixels<\/strong> and a <strong>Height<\/strong> of <strong>1067 pixels<\/strong>. I need to resize my larger image to match this exact size, but there's no need to write the numbers down. Instead, let's see how Photohop can enter the values for us! I'll again click Cancel to close the dialog box:<\/p>\n<p>\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pe-images.s3.amazonaws.com\/basics\/cc\/resize-images-to-match\/photoshop-image-size-small-image.jpg\" alt=\"Clicking the document tabs to switch between images in Photoshop\" width=\"677\" height=\"338\"\/><\/p>\n<div class=\"image-desc\">The second image is already set to the width and height we need.<\/div>\n<h2 class=\"sub\">How To Resize An Image To Match The Size Of Another<\/h2>\n<h3>Step 1: Select The Image To Resize<\/h3>\n<p>To resize an image to match the size of another open image, first select the document that holds the image you need to resize by clicking on its tab. I'll select my \"portrait-large\" document:<\/p>\n<p>\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pe-images.s3.amazonaws.com\/basics\/cc\/resize-images-to-match\/select-image-to-be-resized.png\" alt=\"Choosing the image that will be resized to match the other image\" width=\"619\" height=\"145\"\/><\/p>\n<div class=\"image-desc\">Selecting the image that needs to be resized.<\/div>\n<h3>Step 2: Open The Image Size Dialog Box<\/h3>\n<p>With the document selected, go up to the <strong>Image<\/strong> menu and choose <strong>Image Size<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pe-images.s3.amazonaws.com\/basics\/cc\/resize-images-to-match\/choose-image-size-command-photoshop.png\" alt=\"Choosing the Image Size command from the Image menu in Photoshop\" width=\"206\" height=\"137\"\/><\/p>\n<div class=\"image-desc\">Going to Image &gt; Image Size.<\/div>\n<p>This opens the Image Size dialog box where we see the current width and height of the image. As a quick refresher, here again we see that my larger image is 5184 pixels wide and 3456 pixels tall:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pe-images.s3.amazonaws.com\/basics\/cc\/resize-images-to-match\/photoshop-image-size-large-image.jpg\" alt=\"The current width and height of the larger image\" width=\"676\" height=\"339\"\/><\/p>\n<div class=\"image-desc\">The current width and height of the image.<\/div>\n<h3>Step 3: Choose The Image You Want To Match From The Window Menu<\/h3>\n<p>To resize the image to match the size of another image, go up to the <strong>Window<\/strong> menu in the Menu Bar. At the very bottom of the Window menu is the name of each image that's currently open in Photoshop. In my case, I have two open images, &quot;portrait-large.psd&quot; and &quot;portrait-small.psd&quot;. The image you're currently viewing has a checkmark beside it. Choose the image you want to match from the list. I'll choose &quot;portrait-small&quot;:<\/p>\n<p>\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pe-images.s3.amazonaws.com\/basics\/cc\/resize-images-to-match\/choose-small-image-window-menu-photoshop.png\" alt=\"Selecting the image with the size to match from the Window menu in Photoshop\" width=\"252\" height=\"152\"\/><\/p>\n<div class=\"image-desc\">Selecting the image with the size to match from the Window menu.<\/div>\n<p>Photoshop instantly changes the width and height values to match the dimensions of the image you selected. In my case, the larger image will now share the same width (1600 pixels) and height (1067 pixels) of the smaller image. Click OK to resize the image.
